Pattern Cutting & Garment Construction FOR BEGINNERS
This practical fashion design course will immerse you in the fabulous, exciting world of fashion design and will help learners understand how designers undertake the fashion design process.
During this fast-paced, ten week course candidates are introduced to the principles of pattern cutting for womenswear and shown how to develop your ideas into unique patterns and constructed garments. This course will focus primarily on pattern cutting and manipulating pattern blocks, with some general guidance on garment construction. Some previous experience in sewing will enable you to make the most of this course.
Course fees include sewing materials such as threads, calico for toiles, interfacing and pattern cutting paper.
The emphasis is on womenswear design and working to standard measurements with commercial pattern blocks. However, handouts will be available for students who wish to draft bespoke blocks to personal measurements outside of class time. Upon successful completion of this course, students may wish to progress onto Pattern Cutting for Intermediates, which will cover pattern drafting and garment construction in greater depth.
This course will not run during half term and the last session will be held on the 4th of April.
Beginning with inductions onto our specialist industrial fashion equipment, students will learn pattern terminology, modifying bodices, sleeve and skirt blocks and dart manipulation, and industry standard seam finishes and fasteners.
