level 3 extended diploma in art & design
During this two-year course, you will explore a range of art and design techniques as part of a number of core units and then choose to specialise as the course progresses towards more specialist art and design based disciplines.
Continuous assessment takes place throughout the course, through assignments based upon current art and design practice. All work is produced through coursework and projects and there are no exams!
The course uses practical activities to assess coursework, including peer review, self assessment, presentations, practical activities and exhibitions.
As the course is equivalent to three A-levels, you will be able to progress to university, an Art Foundation course or directly into employment.

level 3/4 pre-degree foundation diploma in art & design
This established and highly respected one-year art foundation course has a broad programme allowing you to gradually specialise in your chosen area, preparing you for higher level study at the university of your choice. During the course, you will go on a residential trip and complete a final project in your chosen discipline, preparing you for employment or university.
The programme is divided into three stages: 'Exploratory', which includes a broad experimental approach to consolidate your discipline, 'Pathway' and 'Confirmatory', where students will work on a final project in their chosen specialism.
Initially, students follow an intensive period of bridging studies which is centred on drawing and developing research skills. This visual studies programme provides students with enough flexibility to explore their own potential in specific areas of the department and to gradually specialise in their preferred discipline.
During stage two, students will develop their visual and practical skills through a range of project based activities in specialist workshops and studios: painting, drawing, sculpture and 3D design, ceramics and glass, graphic design and digital processes, screen-printing, fashion, printed textiles, knitted and woven textiles, photography and video.
The practical work is complemented by contextual studies. Theoretical studies provide for a critical understanding of art and design and its function in society.
Most students progress onto a degree or higher national diploma course in art and design (average 98% per year).
